Philips Colour Television Receivers 1967 to 1983HOME PHILIPS HISTORY MODEL DIRECTORY SALES BLURB G6 G8 G9 G11 COMPONENTS MULLARD & CES COLLECTORS SETS NOSTALGIA FORUM LINKS CONTACT WEBMASTER WelcomeHello everyone and welcome to my website dedicated to Philips Colour Television receivers that were produced during the 1960s and 1970s. The site will focus (no pun intended!) on sets made for the UK market during this period including the ubiquitous G6, G8, G9 and G11 chassis based sets. I would like to encourage any visitors/historians/technical experts/service engineers to contact me if they have additional information on any of the topics discussed and also if they have any corrections to offer. This website remains a work in progress and may well contain unintentional errors (if you see any errors or omissions please do contact me with details/updates/corrections). For those of you who have been visiting this site for sometime you will know that I am always striving to improve site accessibility. Because of this, the site layout may change periodically (but this makes it more fun for you right?!). About the WebmasterFirstly a bit about the Webmaster. My name is Robert and I am in my late forties. I live in sunny Suffolk and often find myself reminiscing about the 'old technology' that I 'dabbled with' during my youth. Between the ages of 12 and 14 I worked (after school and at weekends) in a TV repair shop in Coventry called Frank Bowens and during this period I came into contact with many weird and wonderful pieces of electronic equipment. Very occasionally I would see a colour TV set in the small workshop (I wasn't allowed to touch it!). These creations fascinated me immensely and I persuaded my dad to buy me a set of six Newnes Radio and Television Servicing books that spanned models from 1968 to 1974 - they were big red hard backed books - with gold lettering on the spines - full of circuits and service data on most of the UK TV sets, radios and tape recorders produced. I think my dad paid 34 for the six volumes (spanning 1968 to 1974) which I can never thank him enough for. I still have those books somewhere so I must dig them out ASAP! I am a Local Government Officer and have been involved in the electronics and communications industry for some 32 years. I have an HNC in Electrical Engineering and an honours degree BSc(Hons) in Electronics and Communications Engineering. I have been a full corporate member of The Institute of Engineering and Technology - MIET - (previously the IEE) since 1987. I am an inactive radio amateur and my call sign is a G6 (scary huh)!!! During the early 1980's I was a keen TV DXer and built and operated a colour TV transmitter on 70cm. Robert - Webmaster and Philips Fan (right). Webmasters wife Lucy (The good looking blonde - left). Lucy has threatened to leave me if I bring any old TV sets into our house!
